2018 Subaru Forester vs 2018 Ford Escape

Serving Columbus, Grove City, and Westerville, OH

Top crossover SUVs are durable, capable and versatile vehicles that can handle all types of road and weather conditions. Two of the best examples are the 2018 Subaru Forester and the 2018 Escape. Both offer excellent performance, nimble handling and comfortable ride. But if you test-drive both, you’ll find the Subaru to be the more capable vehicle.

Performance

The turbocharged versions of these two vehicles offer similar performance. Forester has a 2.0-liter turbo boxer-4 engine delivering 250 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque, driving all four wheels through a High-Torque Lineartronic CVT with multi-mode SI-Drive. The base turbocharged engine on the Escape is a 1.5-liter turbo-4 with 179 horsepower, 177 lb-ft of torque and a 6-speed automatic. You can upgrade to a 2.0-liter turbo-4 with 245 horsepower and 275 lb-ft. AWD is standard on the Forester, optional on the Escape. Forester is one of the few SUVs that still offer an optional manual transmission.

Dimensions

The 2018 Forester is longer, taller and lighter than the 2018 Escape, and it has a tighter turning diameter. The Subaru’s interior is more spacious, with more cargo space and passenger space. Forester provides more front headroom, rear legroom, and more shoulder room front and rear.

Features

The 2018 Forester offers several feature advantages. For example, the Subaru’s available X-Mode with Hill Descent Control optimizes the AWD system, throttle, stability control and traction control at the push of a button. Hill Descent Control helps Forester handle steep inclines and slippery surfaces. Escape offers no analogous feature. Forester’s available EyeSight suite includes blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, pre-collision braking, pre-collision throttle management, lane-keeping assist, sway warning, adaptive cruise control, reverse auto-braking and high-beam assist. Forester also offers steering-responsive front LED headlights and rear-view camera. Escape offers some but not all of these safety features.
